PRESS RELEASE
MARCH 19, 2024
The Board of Trustees for Luther Burbank School District is pleased to announce the selection of their new Superintendent-Principal, Ladislao “Lalo” Lopez.
Mr. Lopez has a long history of successful service in public education, most recently in Madera Unified School District where he served as Area Assistant Superintendent with the direct responsibility for 10 schools and 6,500 students. In 2018, Lopez was named Madera County Administrator of the Year, and his school was recognized as a California Distinguished School for consistent academic growth and achievement.
“…Lalo is a cerebral force of nature that any district would be fortunate to bring in as their leader. Lalo would not only bring a level of performance and experience to a district, he would be a fantastic community leader as well,” stated Superintendent Justin Miller.
Lopez’s work experience includes assistant superintendent of education and personnel, principal, assistant principal, counselor, teacher, and paraprofessional classroom aide. His vast experience in these educational fields makes him an excellent fit for this one-school school district where the Superintendent-Principal has the direct responsibility not only to lead the school and district but to lead curriculum and instruction, student services and personnel as well.
“I’m looking forward to working with the Governing Board, staff and parent community to continue creating conditions for all students to feel embraced and empowered, to pursue their academic and personal aspirations in an engaging and supportive learning environment,” stated Mr. Lopez.
Lopez, who is tri-lingual, grew up in the village of San Francisco Higos in Oaxaca, Mexico. His family later moved to Madera, California, where Lalo attended Madera High School and graduated from Fresno State. He holds a master’s degree in guidance and counseling from San Jose State, a California Administrative Services Credential, and is a Certified Business Official (CBO).
The Board was particularly impressed with the research Lalo did on LBSD. He has a reputation of putting students first, consistently demonstrating outstanding communication skills and is recognized for being both strategic and resourceful. Ladislao Lopez will be following Superintendent Edith Mourtos in LBSD who will be retiring on June 30, 2024. Lalo and his wife intend to enroll their two children in Luther Burbank school in the fall.
