I wanted to update you on some major projects that will take place on our campus. As you may have noticed, work is underway to replace the roof our multi-use/gym building. This project will take approximately 6-8 weeks to complete and has a target completion date of June 14, 2024.
To keep our students and visitors safe, the play area near Olive Street has been fenced off and access to our campus via the Olive Street gate is closed. As a reminder, families please allow extra time for morning drop off and afternoon pick up to ensure a safe and orderly arrival and dismissal. Families and education partners please be mindful of not blocking driveways and extend the courtesy of allowing residents to enter and leave exit/enter their driveway. Please help us be good neighbors!
We also anticipate that new construction for our new classroom building will begin in the fall. This project is funded by $10 million Bond Measure HH that was passed in 2018. Funds will be used to build a modular building consisting of 3 Kindergarten classrooms on the first floor and 4 classrooms on the second floor. The new building will be located on the San Carlos street side of the campus.
And lastly, it has been an honor and privilege to serve the Luther Burbank community. Together we have made several upgrades and improvements to the campus, implemented innovative programming to support academic and social emotional learning, and have posted steady academic achievement gains. Luther Burbank posted the highest growth as measured by statewide assessment within Santa Clara County!
I am retiring in June knowing we have established a strong foundation for incoming Superintendent
Ladislao Lopez. He will begin July 1, 2024. Please do take the opportunity to introduce yourself to him and welcome him to the Burbank community!
Best wishes always!
Superintendent Edith Mourtos
